Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 3, 2024) - Hillsborough County officials on Friday, Oct. 4, will cut the ribbon on the first shade structure at any of the County's popular pickleball courts.

The towering steel and aluminum structure will provide welcome relief from the sun and inclement weather at six pickleball courts at Northlakes Sports Complex, 2640 N. Lakeview Dr., Tampa, FL 33618. The ribbon-cutting ceremony at the sports complex will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Pickleball has been the County's fastest-growing sport in recent years, and Parks & Recreation has been rapidly adding courts to meet demand. The County now operates 40 pickleball courts and has additional tennis courts that have been restriped to also accommodate pickleball.

The project at Northlakes Sports Complex included renovating three tennis courts into six pickleball courts and building the 167-by-132-foot steel and aluminum shade structure, including lighting and bleacher seating.
