Hillsborough County, Fla. (July 10, 2025) - Hillsborough County is helping to create a Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan and wants to hear from residents to more effectively help the county rebound faster from a disaster.
The goal of the Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan is to foster a more resilient community by identifying strategies to redevelop infrastructure, businesses, and communities following a crisis.
In 2022, Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa, Pinellas County, and Hernando County were awarded $1.3 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through its grant program for Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Planning. This funding is being used to develop a Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan for each of the partner agencies.
The objectives for the Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan are to identify:
- How to quickly return to normalcy following a disaster
- How to improve housing recovery and business continuity after a disaster
- How to strengthen infrastructure resiliency and sustainability
- How to ensure a coordinated and well-funded redevelopment strategy
- How to protect historic, cultural, and environmental resources
To create and grow an effective Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan, Hillsborough County needs to hear from residents about the experiences and challenges they have faced in the wake of natural disasters, including Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024.
The purpose of this survey is to gather information that will help Hillsborough County and the partner agencies more fully understand the impacts on homes and businesses and develop effective mitigation and recovery strategies.
In addition to attending the meeting, residents can complete an online survey to participate.
