Hillsborough County, Fla. (July 23, 2024) - Exercise is great for the body and mind and is particularly important as we age. The Active Life Games, organized by Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation, helps promote physical and mental fitness through an Olympics-style competition that attracts hundreds of adults age 50 and older each year.
Registration has opened for the 2024 Active Life Games, which began in the 1980s and offers a variety of contests for all skill and fitness levels. This year's Active Life Games will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 11, with events ranging from track and field to shuffleboard to pickleball to billiards and horseshoes. Individual competitions are held over two weeks at a variety of locations throughout Hillsborough County.
Opening ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 30 at Barksdale Senior Center, 1801 N. Lincoln Ave., Tampa, FL 33607. Closing ceremonies are at 11 a.m. Oct. 11 at the University Area Community Complex, 14013 N. 22nd St., Tampa, FL 33613.
Registration continues through Sept. 20. Cost is $25 for one event or $30 for unlimited events. There is an additional $30 charge for those participating in the golf competition, which includes a cart.
In addition to being a lot of fun and a great way to stay in shape, the Games serve as a regional qualifier for the Florida Senior Games.
