Hillsborough County, Fla. (July 11, 2024) - Almost three dozen new firefighters will start their careers with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) at a graduation ceremony on Friday.

The 34 new firefighters are a diverse group with several bi-lingual firefighters ready to fan out across Hillsborough County to provide services to the area's fast-growing population.

HCFR has 47 fire stations serving the 1.1 million residents of unincorporated Hillsborough County with more than 1,100 firefighters. The new firefighters will get new station and shift assignments during the graduation ceremony, putting them in fire houses from VanDyke to Sun City and from Citrus Park to Apollo Beach.

All of the new firefighters have graduated from Fire Academy and are certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). For the past four weeks, the recruit class has been through a Hillsborough-specific orientation to get them ready for their first days on the job.
