Hillsborough County, Fla. (April 10, 2024) - The East Tampa Business and Community Development Alliance and Hillsborough County on Thursday will celebrate the completion of dramatic improvements at two apartment complexes serving low-income residents.
The year-long project involved extensive interior and exterior renovations to the 12 units at Hart House, 11311 N. 23rd St., Tampa, FL 33612, and the 16 units at Betty Wiggins Place, 1415 E. 140th Ave., Tampa FL 33613. Both buildings now have new roofs, cabinets, plumbing, flooring, windows, and sliding doors. The Hart House has air conditioning for the first time. Additional improvements were made to the buildings' electrical systems and exterior lighting and landscaping.
Hillsborough County contributed $6.2 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act to help the East Tampa Business and Community Development Alliance purchase and rehabilitate the two buildings. Both buildings are rented at below-market rate to residents making 80 percent or less of the area median income.
Thursday's ribbon-cutting ceremony will be at 10 a.m. at Betty Wiggins Place, 1415 140th Ave., Tampa, FL 33613. Betty Wiggins, who died in 2011, was a civic leader, Tampa City Council member, businesswoman, and former executive director of the East Tampa Business & Civic Association.
The East Tampa Business and Community Development Alliance is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to develop a healthy business and community climate to stimulate opportunities and improve living conditions for children, families, and seniors in East Tampa and throughout the area.
