Commissioners recognize festival staff, Queen and her court, and Mr. and Mrs. Berry

Strawberries were the center of attention Feb. 21 as the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners presented a proclamation declaring Feb. 29 through March 10, 2024, as Florida Strawberry Festival Days. Danny Coton, the festival's Board Chair, accepted the recognition. Coton was joined by numerous guests, including Festival Queen Annistyn Griffin, First Maid Taylor Gregory, and Court Members Zion Keese, SaraGrace Sparkman, and Abigail Spivey, and the festival's mascots, Mr. and Mrs. Berry.

Strawberry Festival history

The Florida Strawberry Festival has long been recognized as the No. 1 fair or festival in Florida, as well as one of the top 35 events in North America, where people enjoy some of the world's top entertainment, educational exhibits, friendly competitions, and attractions. The festival draws, entertains, and enlightens over 600,000 local residents and visitors from around the world each year, introducing them to Plant City agriculture, arts, businesses, horticulture, and industry.

After accepting the proclamation, Coton thanked the Board for the recognition and said that the festival is a very special part of Plant City.

"It's something that…the community really rallies around," he said. "It's been a special part of the community since 1930."
