During the Feb. 7, 2024, Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting:
The Board presented a commendation to Riverside Recovery of Tampa for enabling people to return to the life they love by providing medical detox, residential and day-and-night treatment, intensive outpatient services, and outpatient therapy for those suffering from addiction and mental health disorders.
Commissioners directed staff to draft an amendment to the Land Development Code requiring written authorization from rail line owners for development seeking private railroad crossings. Currently, the County has no responsibility to maintain the tracks, signals, or approaches at private crossings. The amendment is part of an effort to increase safety measures in these areas.
A majority of commissioners voted to adopt an ordinance amending the Consolidated Impact Assessment Program to remove text relating to affordable housing relief from impact fees. The approval will result in the elimination of County expenditures on transportation, Fire Rescue, and parks impact fees for affordable housing projects.
The Board approved an agreement with the University Area Community Development Corporation, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $750,000 for overall operations and services to University Area Community residents through Sept. 30, 2024. For 25 years, the UACDC has provided support for thousands of residents through programming, housing, adult education, and resource assistance.
A majority of commissioners voted to approve a new board policy entitled "Nonprofit Funding Guidelines." The new policy is intended to improve budget transparency. Fiscal Year 2024 nonprofit funding agreements will not be subject to the new policy.
The next BOCC regular meeting is at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024. You can watch the meeting live on YouTube on the Hillsborough County Meetings channel.
