Project expected to be complete in late 2024

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Dec. 13, 2023) - Hillsborough County is improving Howard Avenue from West Kennedy Boulevard to West St. Louis Street near Columbus Drive to enhance transportation mobility and increase safety.

The project includes full resurfacing, rectangular rapid-flashing beacons, reduced speed limits, sidewalk improvements, and new signage and pavement markings.

The Howard Avenue Resurfacing Project will be a large investment in the County's infrastructure at more than $3 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Residents can learn more about the project and provide input using the Hillsborough Engagement & Education Hub. Comment for this project is open through Dec. 20, 2023. Visit HCFLGov.net/HCEngage to participate.

Pedestrian safety improvements and multimodal accommodations are included in the scope of this project. Rectangular rapid-flashing beacons (RRFBs) will be installed at West Gray Street, West Cass Street, West Spruce Street, West Cherry Street, West Palmetto Street, and West Beach Street. These safety features are pedestrian-activated and designed to help pedestrians and cyclists safely cross the street.

As the project is in the City of Tampa, city officials also have requested a speed limit reduction from 40 mph to 35 mph.
