Detailed information including maps, schedules, renderings, and a video

The Hillsborough County Water Resources Department is planning a wastewater service improvement project in the Gibsonton area that will connect businesses and property owners to safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible wastewater services. The new wastewater improvement project will allow utility customers currently on septic systems to connect to the County’s wastewater collection and treatment system (sewer service).

The Gibsonton Septic-to-Sewer (S2S) Conversion Project is part of a countywide effort to protect groundwater and improve the quality of the region’s natural water systems by eliminating septic tanks and low-pressure sewer systems in areas around Tampa Bay. In addition to the installation of new wastewater pipelines throughout the community, the project will also include the construction of a new vacuum pump station at Gibsonton Elementary School and upgrades to area drinking water pipelines.

To facilitate delivery of the Project, the work will be divided into six (6) Phases as noted below and as illustrated in the following image.

  • Phase 1B – Force Main from south of Bullfrog Creek on East Bay Drive to Symmes Road, and east to Poinsettia Street
  • Phase 1C – Vacuum Main and Water Main (Southeast) bordered by Vern Street on the west, I-75 on the east, Gibsonton Drive on the north, and Bullfrog Creek on the south
  • Phase 2 – Vacuum Main and Water Main (Southwest) bordered by Lula Street on the west, Vern Street on the east, Gibsonton Drive on the north, and Bullfrog Creek on the south
  • Phase 3 - Vacuum Main and Water Main (Northwest) bordered by US 41 on the west, Penninsular Drive on the east, Alafia River on the north, and Gibsonton Drive on the south

Schedule

Design and permitting is anticipated to be complete as follows:

  • Phase 1A – Mid 2023
  • Phase 1B – Late 2023
  • Phase 1C – Late 2023
  • Phase 2 – Early 2024
  • Phase 3 – Late 2024
  • Phase 4 – Early 2025
  • The construction schedule for each phase is still tentative but will be communicated once it is determined
  • Connections to central sewer are anticipated to be completed in late 2026

Proposed Vacuum Sewer Pump Station

The County is proposing to construct the new vacuum sewer pump station at the Gibsonton Elementary School site. The new pump station will include the following features:

  • The only access to the proposed vacuum pump station facility will be from Nundy Avenue
  • The secure gated vacuum pump station facility will include fencing around the property. Additionally, the existing chain-link fence along Nundy Avenue will be replaced with new chain-link fence.
  • The vacuum pumps will be completely enclosed in a concrete-block building. The pump station building will minimize noise from the pumps, so they will not be noticeable to surrounding neighbors
  • The pump station building will be designed to decoratively blend into the surrounding structures
  • The proposed vacuum sewer system will be equipped with a dedicated odor control system to prevent and mitigate any potential sewer odors
