Recognition of County Contributions to Not-for-Profit Corporations

Purpose

To establish a policy that not-for-profit corporations (organized pursuant to Section 501(c)(3), Internal Revenue Code) receiving public funding or non-monetary support from Hillsborough County provide appropriate recognition of those contributions.

Policy

Not-for-profit corporations that receive public funding or non-monetary contributions through Hillsborough County shall recognize the County for its contribution in promotional material and at any events or workshops for which County funds are allocated. Any news release or other type of publicity must identify the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners as a funding source. In written materials, the reference to the County must appear in the same size letters and font type as the name of any other funding sources.

Responsibility

It shall be the responsibility of the County department proposing a contract between a not-for-profit corporation and Hillsborough County to ensure that a contractual provision containing requirements in accordance with this policy be included in said contract. If a department believes a specific contract with a non-profit corporation should not require such recognition, due to federal or State grant restrictions or because of the nature of the service provided to the County, the department will disclose in the agenda item seeking Board approval that the contract does not meet this policy and justification why the policy should not apply. Where a non-monetary contribution is made by the County and no contract exists, the County department responsible for the contribution will notify the not-for-profit corporation of the requirements of this policy.

Contracts existing on the effective date of this policy will be modified to incorporate this requirement only at the time they are modified for any other purpose.
