Hillsborough County Policy on Recovery of Costs for Damages to County Roadway Facilities/property
Purpose
To provide a policy for the comprehensive recovery of costs for damages to County roadway facilities or property including, but not limited to, signs, lights, signal devices, curbs, railings, and bridges, etc. This policy coordinates efforts by the County Attorney’s Office, the County Administrator through the Insurance and Claims Management Division of the Purchasing Department and the Department of Public Works, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Policy
It is the policy of the Board of County Commissioners that appropriate efforts be made to recover costs for damages to County roadway facilities or property. These efforts should be coordinated between the County Attorney, the Hillsborough County Sheriff, the County Administrator, and to the extent possible, the cities of Tampa, Temple Terrace, and Plant City to allow maximum recovery of all sums due to Hillsborough County. The proceeds may assist in funding repairs to roadway facilities or property.
Responsibility
It is the responsibility of the Insurance and Claims Management Division of the Purchasing Department and the Department of Public Works, under the direction of the County Administrator, to cooperate with the County Attorney and the Hillsborough County Sheriff in effectuating this policy.
