Payment for Outside Legal Services and Court Appointed Attorneys

Purpose

To establish guidelines for processing invoices for payment of outside legal services and to discontinue submission of invoices for legal services where there is an existing contract and for approval of court orders for payment of fees and costs for court appointed attorneys.

Policy

The Board of County Commissioners approves and adopts the policy whereby the County Attorney is not required to submit invoices for legal services for Board approval where there is an existing contract for legal services. Also, submission of invoices to the Board for approval of payment of fees and costs for court appointed attorneys is discontinued along with invoices for payment of legal services for outside attorneys handling conflict cases for the Public Defender.

Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the County attorney to comply with Board policy for processing invoices for payment of legal services for outside attorneys. The County Attorney is required to provide to the Board a quarterly report reflecting costs paid year to date for outside legal services and court appointed attorneys.
