Processing of Impounded Animal

Purpose

To provide guidelines and to establish criteria for processing of impounded animals.

Policy

The Board of County Commissioners approves and adopts the policy for the handling and processing of impounded animals as follows:

Animals impounded with identification will be held fourteen (14) days.

A Supervisor, in coordination with kennel workers, will determine which animals will be selected for adoption.

Animals with identification selected for adoption will be held an additional fourteen (14) days, and if not adopted at the end of that period, will be scheduled to be euthanized, or selected for medical research at the University of South Florida.

Unidentified animals selected for adoption will be held an additional fourteen (14) days, and if not adopted at the end of that period, will be scheduled to be euthanized, or selected for medical research at the University of South Florida.

Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of Animal Control to put into effect the guidelines established for handling impounded animals in compliance with the policy of the Board of County Commissioners.
