Release of Unclaimed Animals for Medical Research Projects and Teaching
Purpose
To provide Board of County Commissioners guidance on the release of unclaimed animals for medical research projects and teaching.
Policy
The Board of County Commissioners agrees in the need for the use of animals in medical research projects and teaching and authorizes the release of unclaimed animals by the Animal Control Department to the Medical Center, University of South Florida.
Responsibilities
The Department of Animal Control is responsible for implementing the Board of County Commissioners’ policy for the release of unclaimed animals for medical research projects and teaching and to establish an agreement with the University of South Florida to assess charges to defray expenses for providing this service.
