Design Criteria for Bridge Construction
Purpose
To establish design criteria for bridge construction to insure new structures meet uniform minimum standards.
Policy
It is the policy of the Board of County Commissioners that all bridge structures to be constructed on the County roadway system must be designed to meet the most current edition of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) standared specificatons for highway bridges; also, bridge structures shall be designed for HS20-44 (MS-18) loading. Any exception to this minimum loading designation may only be approved by the County Engineer, and only if sufficient engineering data is supplied to justify a smaller loading designation for a particular location.
Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the Assistant County Administrator for Public Works to implement the design criteria for bridge construction as approved and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners.
