Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Policy
Purpose
It is the policy of Hillsborough County to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements as established by 45 CFR Parts 160 and 164 Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information, Final Rule, as the same may be amended from time to time. Further, it is the policy of Hillsborough County to provide a copy of the County’s Notice of Privacy Practices to individuals covered by HIPAA, and to safeguard protected health information. In addition, it is the policy of the County to cooperate with the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services in connection with HIPAA requirements, as required by law. To accomplish the intent of this policy, the BOCC hereby directs the County Administrator to timely promulgate policies and procedures and other administrative requirements necessary to comply with HIPAA.
