Policy for Refund of Animal Control Fees and/or Deposits
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish the Board of County Commissioners’ guidance for the refund of Animal Control fees and/or deposits, when applicable.
Policy
The Board of County Commissioners’ Policy for the refund of Animal Control fees and/or deposits are as follows:
- A. Sterilization Deposits. Chapter 823.15 Florida Statute requires sterilization of an adopted dog or cat or a deposit sufficient guarantee sterilization within thirty (30) days or prior t sexual maturity. When ownership terminates due to the death of the animal or the animal is returned to Animal Control prior to the allowable time period, it shall be the policy of the Board to approve the refund of sterilization deposit upon presentation of proper documentation and written request.
- B. Advance Tag Fee. The Board shall approve the refund the Advance Tag Fee upon written request and proper documentation certifying the animal died or was returned to Animal Control before expiration of the Advance Tag Certificate.
- The Accounting Department is hereby authorized to refund these deposits or fees upon presentation of proper documentation and written request that have been reviewed and approved by the Director of Animal, Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control.
- C. Adoption Fee. Adoption fees paid for the adoption of animals from Animal Control center shall not be refunded. Animal Control may allow the exchange of an animal for another animal within four (4) days of the adoption date if it is deemed proper and feasible and in accordance with the Adoption Agreement.
Responsibilities
Animal Control is to review requests for refunds and make recommendations to the Accounting Department when the request has been made in writing and accompanied by proper documentation.
