Prohibition of Smoking in County-Owned or Leased Facilities and Vehicles
Purpose
To provide a uniform policy prohibiting smoking by both employees and members of the public in all County-owned and leased facilities. Smoking is also prohibited in all those motor vehicles utilized by County departments under the Hillsborough County administrator.
Policy
In recognition of the benefits to the employees of Hillsborough County and to the public it serves in terms of potential increases in employee attendance and productivity and the reduction of smoking-related claims and facility- related maintenance costs, the Board of County Commissioners does hereby establish that smoking will be prohibited in all County-owned and leased facilities and vehicles, both presently owned and here after acquired. Any proposed exceptions to this policy will require a super majority vote of the Board of County Commissioners. As with all Board policies, any violation hereof may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Responsibilities
It will be the responsibility of the Facilities Management Department to acquire and post the requisite no-smoking sings in all County-owned and leased facilities. While each individual department, agency or constitutional office located on County premises will have the initial duty to enforce this policy, ultimate enforcement authority will rest with the Facilities Management Department. The Fleet Management Department will be responsible for enforcing the smoking ban as it relates County vehicles.
