Board of County Commissioners Taking Position on Constitutional Amendments

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish the Board of County Commissioners guidelines for support of or opposition to constitutional amendments.

Policy

It is the policy of the Board of County Commissioners that proposed constitutional amendments shall not be endorsed or opposed by the Board.

From time to time, the Board of County Commissioners may depart from the general policy and officially support or oppose proposed constitutional amendments, issues or referendums when there is or may be a direct or significant financial impact on Hillsborough County or the operations or regulatory powers of the County.

Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the County Administrator to schedule on the Board’s agenda, any proposed constitutional amendment, issue or referendum which may directly or significantly have a financial impact on Hillsborough County or which impacts the operations or regulatory powers of the County. The Board shall consider each such item and determine whether endorsement is proper.
