Drug Free Workplace for Agencies Receiving Contractual Funds Through Community Services and Planning Policy

Purpose

To demonstrate BOCC awareness of problems caused by drugs in the workplace and demonstrate BOCC leadership by requiring a drug free workplace policy for agencies receiving funds through the Department of Community Services and Planning. This does not mandate drug testing, but will encourage agencies without an existing policy to develop and implement one. The intent of this policy, approved by the Board on September 5, 1990, was to initiate awareness of the drug problem among agencies receiving County funds by working with a limited population to determine potential problems or areas of concern. If approved by the Board at a future date, this policy could be expanded to any agency receiving County funds.

Policy

To include in all contracts administered through the Department of Community Service and Planning a drug free workplace clause assuring that the organization is free from the illegal use, possession or distribution of drugs or distribution of drugs or alcohol.

Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the Substance Abuse Coordination Unit of the Department of Community Services and Planning to include a drug free workplace policy clause in all contracts it administers and to ensure compliance.
