BOCC Involvement With Recruitment of Major Convention, Leisure or Sporting Events

Purpose

To establish guidelines for when the Board of County Commissioners should be invited to participate in the recruitment of major convention, leisure or sporting events to Hillsborough County.

Policy

As the lead marketing organization for Tampa/Hillsborough County, the Tampa Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau (TBCVB) should include the Board of County Commissioners in efforts to attract major convention, leisure or sporting events with a potential “city-wide” impact. A “city-wide” event is defined as: Any major convention, leisure or sports oriented event that occupies the Tampa Convention Center, or a major sporting facility, and utilizes two or more hotels. (Examples: NFL Super Bowl, NCAA Final 4, North American Shrine Convention, Florida Music Educators Association Annual Meeting.) The invitation for BOCC involvement shall include the Chairman and the County Commissioner currently sitting on the TBCVB Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

It shall be the responsibility of the TBCVB to contact and coordinate with the Chairman and the County Commissioner currently sitting on the TBCVB Board of Directors for involvement in the subject activities. Coordination by the TBCVB shall also include the involvement of the Economic Development Department.
