Requests for Citizen Appearances Before the Board of County Commissioners
Purpose
To establish guidelines for the County Administrator to handle citizen requests to appear before the Board of County Commissioners.
Policy
It is the policy of the Board of County Commissioners that citizens requesting to appear before the Board in regular session will be directed to the County Administrator to handle their matters by research and/or resolution. However, if a solution cannot be achieved, the County Administrator, if appropriate, may schedule the item on a regular meeting agenda for Board consideration.
Responsibilities
The County Administrator will take action on citizen requests to appear before a regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners to resolve the matter or find a solution. If a solution cannot be achieved, the County Administrator, if appropriate, shall schedule the item of the regular meeting agenda for Board Consideration.
For purposes of the BOCC agenda for Regular meetings, the “Scheduled Appearances” Section shall be reserved for:
- Elected or appointed officials bringing subjects that require action or are of general interest to the Board for discussion;
- Members of BOCC-appointed committees presenting reports of interest to the Board;
- Representatives of organizations funded or supported by the BOCC who wish to deliver reports, make brief presentations or introductions that are relevant to BOCC Support;
- Any person or organization that has undertaken an assignment at the request of the BOCC, and wishes to address the BOCC with respect to such task;
- Any person or organization with a problem or grievance that has not been reconciled by the County Administrator, and that would not be appropriate for discussion within the time constraints of the audience participation portion of the BOCC Agenda; or
- Any person or organization which the BOCC directs the County Administrator to schedule within this section of the Agenda.
