Annual competition promotes health and wellness - and fun - for those 50 and older
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Sept. 25, 2026) - Exercise is great for the body and mind and is particularly important as we age. On Monday, Sept. 28, Hillsborough County will hold opening ceremonies for the 45th Annual Tampa Bay Active Life Games, an Olympics-style competition that attracts hundreds of adults age 50 and older each year.
Organized by Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation in partnership with the City of Tampa Parks & Recreation, the Games combine friendly competition with serious fun. Athletes can also qualify for the Florida Senior Games.
Designed to promote physical and mental fitness, the competitions run from Sept. 28 through Oct. 9 at locations throughout the county. Events range from track and field to billiards, pickleball, shuffleboard, horseshoes, and more.
Opening ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Barksdale Senior Center, 1801 N. Lincoln Ave., Tampa, FL 33607, and include a Torch Lighting Walk. Closing ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 9 at Northdale Recreation Center, 15510, Hooting Owls Pl., Tampa, FL 33624.
The cost is $35 and allows the participant to compete in multiple events. In addition to promoting health and wellness, the Games also serve as a regional qualifier for the Florida Senior Games.
