Fourteen contestants competed to cheers and support from family and friends at the Brandon Senior Center
Hillsborough County Aging Services hosted its inaugural Senior Beauty Pageant on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Brandon Senior Center, 612 N. Parsons Ave., Tampa, FL 33510.
Fourteen contestants ages 62 to 90 competed.
The beauty pageant featured numerous competitive categories including cultural costume presentation, formal dress, and interview. Along with selecting three finalists and crowning a winner, judges also awarded contestants for Best Cultural Costume, Best Personality and Confidence, Best Formal Dress, Best Interview, and Miss Congeniality.
Family, friends, and beauty pageant enthusiasts attended to cheer and support the contestants.
The inaugural Senior Beauty Pageant honors National Senior Center Month, which is celebrated every September. The goal is to demonstrate that age and beauty have no limits. These special events give seniors an opportunity to socialize with their peers, remain active, and engaged with a community.
Aging Services has seven senior centers throughout Hillsborough County, including Brandon, Lutz, Tampa, Ruskin, Wimauma, Progress Village, and Town 'N Country.
They also have 14 Dining and Activity Centers located in Gibsonton, Plant City, and throughout Tampa.
The senior centers and dining centers offer a number of programs and activities to keep seniors active, engaged, and motivated.
Programs include dances, trivia contests, and classes covering arts and crafts, music, dance, exercise, and health and wellness for active seniors, as well as a free lunch program for seniors 60 and over.
Later this month, Aging Services will celebrate National Senior Center Month with its annual Senior Prom.
