County will host events that are open to the public and designed to assist and educate clients and caregivers
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Sept. 17, 2026) - Thousands of seniors call Hillsborough County home. While some are independent and active, other seniors need extra care. Hillsborough County Adult Day Services offers resources to assist.
During the week of Sept. 21 - 27, Hillsborough County Adult Day Services will celebrate National Adult Day Services Week with programs to educate and raise awareness.
Adult Day Services is hosting two community events that will offer practical insights, health screenings, and resources for caregivers and seniors. Both events are open to the public.
The first community event is in honor of World Alzheimer's Day, which is Sept. 21. Adult Day Services will host "A Walk in Their World: Understanding Alzheimer's in Honor of World Alzheimer's Day" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the Phyllis Busansky Adult Day Center, 4102 W. Spruce St., Tampa, FL 33607.
Participants will learn about dementia through family-focused workshops and can explore interactive tools that support people living with Alzheimer's. There will be a virtual dementia simulation tour and free memory screenings. The Alzheimer's Association Brain Bus staff also will attend to provide insight and practical guidance.
The second community event recognizes Fall Prevention Day. Aging Services will host "Balance Boulevard: Fall-Prevention Fair Empowering Seniors and Caregivers for a Safer Tomorrow" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Plant City Adult Day Center, 1205 S. Waller St., Plant City, FL 33563.
The program will educate participants on ways to reduce falls and establish healthy lifestyle practices. There will be interactive health screenings, including interactive balance and mobility screenings, and opportunities to meet with local senior health and wellness professionals.
Residents who aren't clients with Hillsborough County Adult Day Services can attend and participate. No prior registration is required.
Adult Day Services' interdisciplinary teams of professionals, including nurses, case managers, CNAs, recreational aides, and supervisors, engage clients in activities such as nutrition and wellness education sessions, monthly vital checks, therapeutic exercise groups, sensory awareness activities, crocheting, arts and crafts, reality orientation and reminiscing groups, and social games such as bingo and dominos.
Caregiver support services are included within Adult Day Care Center initiatives. These supportive services include monthly caregiver support groups, an annual health fair, an annual caregivers' workshop, fall-prevention programs, ongoing Alzheimer's disease trainings, and referrals to community agencies like Alzheimer's Association and USF Memory Disorder Clinic.
