Older Americans Month event celebrated seniors with music, dancing, food, and awards
Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 15, 2026) - Hillsborough County Aging Services celebrated Older Americans Month today by honoring two volunteers for their dedication and contribution to serving others.
Recognized by the federal government and the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, May is observed as Older Americans Month. Hillsborough County Aging Services celebrated with its annual event. This year's theme, "Championing Your Health," included a health fair, formal celebration, dance, and food. The goal was to recognize the value that seniors bring to our communities and to remind them to stay active and champion their health.
The event - held at the Oaks Senior Center, 101 E. Kirby St., Tampa, FL 33604 - recognized Gloria Pate and Vyline Beaupierre as Hillsborough County Aging Services Volunteers of the Year for their role in assisting local seniors and the seniors at Hillsborough County Senior Centers.
Gloria Pate has been a member of the Ruskin Senior Center since 2016. She is a line dance instructor and lead coach for the center's line dance team for 10 years. She enthusiastically teaches older adults safe, age-appropriate techniques, promoting physical, mental, and social well-being. She also leads dance performances and represents Ruskin Senior Center at countywide events, including Black Heritage, Hispanic Heritage, and other Aging Services celebrations.
Her dedication to service extends far beyond the senior center. She served as a manager at Goodwill for 32 years and continues to volunteer there. She has also volunteered at Manatee County Jail for 25 years, supporting and guiding young men in empowerment and service.
Vyline Beaupierre is a member of the Gardenville Senior & Dining Center where she is an invaluable volunteer and leader. She actively recruits new volunteers, helping grow the volunteer base and strengthening community reach. She provides steady event support and assists with center programs.
After dedicating 31 years to the Florida Department of Children and Families and an additional 28 years working part-time with Sears, she entered retirement with the purpose of serving her community and supporting those in need. Following the 2024 hurricanes, Beaupierre played an important role in helping provide more than 1,000 meals over the course of four Saturdays to families in the Dover community, many of whom are part of the migrant population. Her commitment ensured that vulnerable populations received consistent nourishment and care.
In addition to serving adults and seniors, Beaupierre also supports children through the Kidspack program, where she helps prepare weekend meal packages for underserved students at local elementary schools. She also volunteers at Vacation Bible School, and regularly visits residents in a Tampa nursing home to offer companionship, encouragement, and joy.
