Arts Council of Hillsborough County invites residents to enjoy local art at County Center rotating installation

New artwork is now on display at Hillsborough County Center's "Rising Voices: Creative Works by Hillsborough County Youth" art exhibit. The third installation, "Boundless," is a collaborative piece that aims to capture the spirit of spring and the essence of our community. Behind the artwork is a group of kids who are part of Community Stepping Stones, a nonprofit organization in Sulphur Springs, dedicated to using an arts-infused curriculum to inspire, educate, and mentor youth to become successful adults.

A closer look at the "Boundless" art installation

Through the use of upcycled materials, the "Boundless" art celebrates sustainability and the power of reimagining everyday objects. From egg cartons to plastic cups and more, students used recyclable materials to create fascinating works of art. The exhibit features blooming flowers, the iconic Sulphur Springs water tower, and the Community Stepping Stones facility. At its heart, the nonprofit says "Boundless" uses artistic expression to foster unity and inspire change. Sarai Nava, the executive director at Community Stepping Stones, says the exhibit shows how art can be made of anything.

"In the past couple of years our art has taken a focus on recyclables, taking everyday items that could be trash and turning them into masterpieces," said Nava. "Anything is on the table, and the kids were very excited about it."

About Community Stepping Stones

Community Stepping Stones offers a variety of programs and activities for students, including free art camps, outreach programs, take-home art kits, and community event activities designed to expand access to creative experiences. The organization also provides older youth with paid, hands-on work opportunities as Teaching Art Assistants, helping them build skills and gain early job experience.

For students featured at County Center, it's a chance to see their hard work on display, something Community Stepping Stones says is years in the making.

"I am beyond proud," said Nava. "I've worked with these kids for about 5 years. It is amazing that visitors can see something a kid made and admire their creativity."

The artwork will be displayed in the County Center lobby from now through May 22. Residents and visitors can stop by the lobby during regular business hours to experience the imaginative works and celebrate the next generation of creative thinkers.
