Join Hillsborough County for this 10th annual event
As tax season looms and the risk of identity theft intensifies, Hillsborough County residents are urged to take advantage of a free and secure solution. ShredFest 2026 is an event offering free document shredding and electronic device disposal to safeguard residents against identity theft.
Hosted by the Regulatory Compliance division of Hillsborough County Code Enforcement, ShredFest 2026 will be held on Saturday, March 7, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 3602 U.S. Hwy. 301 N., Tampa, FL 33619.
This 10th annual event coincides with National Consumer Protection Week and offers a way to help combat identity theft. On-site document shredding will be available for up to three copy-paper-sized boxes or kitchen-sized trash bag containers per vehicle. Recommended items to shred include old bank documents, unnecessary bills and receipts, expired insurance policies, and sensitive medical records. Residents should consult IRS guidelines regarding the retention of tax records.
ShredFest goes beyond destroying just paper documents, though, with electronic "e-shredding" to thwart cyber identity theft. The process, known as IT asset disposition (ITAD), ensures the secure and environmentally sustainable disposal of unwanted devices containing data. Residents are encouraged to drop off old cellphones, personal computers, laptops, tablets, and hard drives, all of which will be securely destroyed by an industry-approved and certified recycler.
All batteries, and any cords or trash, must be removed from paper shredding prior to submission. Paper products must be separated from phones and electronics. Failure to comply may result in loss of shredding service.
Those interested in participating in ShredFest should remain in their vehicles during the convenient, drive-thru drop-off process. All services are free and provided on a first-come, first-served basis during the one-day event. Consumer protection experts will be on-site to address any questions or concerns. No commercial shredding is permitted.
Importantly, Veterans Memorial Park and its monuments will remain open and accessible throughout the event.
