Partnership Reduces unnecessary ambulance transport and emergency department visits, and allows EMS resources to be available for life-threatening emergencies

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) will soon offer innovative care options for non-emergency 911 callers through a new partnership with MD Ally Technologies. This new agreement, at no cost to the County, will help connect non-emergency 911 callers to the right care quickly and efficiently without always sending an ambulance.

MD Ally is a cloud-based healthcare navigation and telemedicine platform that integrates directly into the emergency call workflow. When a 911 call is identified as a non-emergency, MD Ally connects patients in real time to appropriate care providers without the use of a traditional ambulance transport and emergency department visits. The telehealth consultants are board-certified paramedics, nurses, and physicians and if needed, have rapid response vans for on-site visits. The company also guides patients to urgent care, primary care, or other community resources.

The program is expected to divert 10,000 to 20,000 non-emergency calls annually, representing 8 to 16% of HCFR's total EMS volume. By reducing unnecessary ambulance transport and emergency department visits, the initiative will help free up critical EMS resources for life-threatening emergencies.
