Hillsborough County, Fla. (Jan. 6, 2026) - A portion of the Upper Tampa Bay Trail will close beginning Wednesday, Jan. 7, while workers replace a large culvert under the trail that was damaged during hurricanes Helene and Milton.

The area to be closed is east of Sheldon Road and north of the Channel A waterway near West Waters Avenue. The area undergoing repair will be clearly marked, and trail users will not be allowed to use the closed portion of the trail until work is complete. The nearest trailheads are at 9201 W. Waters Ave., Tampa, FL 33635, and 10338 Wilsky Blvd., Tampa, FL 33625. There also are several neighborhood trail access points between the two trailheads.

This portion of the trail is expected to be closed for up to several weeks, though weather and other factors could affect the schedule.

The Upper Tampa Bay Trail travels through residential northwest Hillsborough County and has six trailheads with parking that serve as primary access and exit points. The trail runs along both suburban and natural areas and is popular with walkers, runners, bicyclists, and others.
