Officiated by the International Dominoes Federation, the tournament drew pro-level competition and high-caliber fun
Friendly competition was in the air on Friday, Oct. 24, at the Town 'N Country Senior Center where purple-clad residents from around the county settled in to compete in the 11th annual Hillsborough County Dominoes Tournament.
The 45 participants started the morning with a briefing on the rules of the game by International Dominoes Federation certified judge Wilibardo Rosario.
Shortly thereafter, phones were silenced, caps removed, and the room was filled with the sound of shuffling dominoes as each table began their first round of play.
For five rounds, residents placed their tiles and matched their pips, all vying for the title of Hillsborough County Dominoes Champion.
In the end, the Town 'N Country Senior Center took first and second place, the Lutz Senior Center took third, and the Wimauma Senior Center took fourth.
In it for the fun
Win or lose, participants enjoyed friendly competition in a world class domino environment where roaming judges ensured play was fair and rules were followed.
Winners received trophies, but all participants earned bragging rights for taking part in a professional-level tournament.
