New fire station will help serve growing area of South Hillsborough County
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2025) - Hillsborough County leaders will host a ceremony at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, to break ground for Fire Station No. 47.
Hillsborough County Fire Station No. 47 will be a modern, two-bay station. It is expected to be completed in October 2026.
The new fire station will help meet the public safety and emergency response needs of residents and businesses in a growing area of Hillsborough County. The full-service fire station will serve as an example of Hillsborough County's commitment to public safety, and it will offer residents and business owners in the area enhanced protection and improved response times.
It will also benefit Hillsborough County Fire Rescue firefighters, who respond to an estimated 140,000 emergency calls a year throughout the county. The new station will have at least five full-time firefighters per 24-hour shift and be equipped with a fire engine and rescue ambulance. It is designed to provide the latest resources, equipment, and tools to allow firefighters to serve the residents and businesses in South Hillsborough County.
The station will also include a decontamination area, where showers and a laundry room are accessible to firefighters returning from fighting a fire before they enter the living quarters. These facilities help eliminate carcinogens, which is important in keeping firefighters healthy from cancer-causing smoke and residue common in modern fires.
Fire Station No. 47 also will serve as an example of the state and local government working together to enhance public safety for local communities. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue will share the land at no cost with the Florida Forest Service, which owns the land and has a building and staff on the property. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue has a similar agreement with the Florida Forest Service at Fire Station No. 36 in Dover. It also has an agreement with the state of Florida to lease state property at no charge for the future Fire Station No. 49, which will be located north of Tampa International Airport.
