Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2025) - Hillsborough County already has a wheelchair basketball team for adults, and now the County is offering the same opportunity for those under 18.

Tryouts for the Junior Strong Dogs wheelchair basketball team will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Lesley "Les" Miller, Jr. All People's Community Park & Life Center, 6105 E. Sligh Ave., Tampa, FL 33617.

Youth athletes with physical disabilities are invited to try out for the team, and all experience levels are welcome. The County has had an adult wheelchair basketball team - the Strong Dogs - for years, but this is the first time Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation will hold tryouts for a wheelchair basketball team for those ages 5 to 17.

The team will offer a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment and give players a chance to learn the game and showcase their skills. The event is free and pre-registration is not required.

Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation offers a wide range of adaptive sports that promote health, independence, and personal growth for people with physical and intellectual disabilities. Find out more at HCFL.gov/Adaptive.
