Duffels of Dignity receives generous donation from Tampa International Airport
Hillsborough County Children's Services' Duffels of Dignity program received a major boost thanks to a generous donation of unclaimed luggage from Tampa International Airport (TPA). The airport's gift will provide 119 bags to youth in foster care and families in crisis, ensuring children never have to carry their belongings in trash bags during difficult transitions.
Duffels of Dignity, launched in 2022, provides new or gently used duffel bags, suitcases, and backpacks - along with personal care items - to children who are often entering foster care with very few possessions. Something as simple as a sturdy bag can restore dignity and give children a sense of belonging during one of the most challenging times in their lives. Last year alone, the program collected nearly 1,900 items and helped 2,600 children and families.
The donation from TPA highlights the community's power to make a lasting difference, and Hillsborough County Children's Services extends sincere appreciation to the airport for stepping up in such a meaningful way.
Community members who wish to join in supporting Duffels of Dignity can donate new or gently used duffel bags, suitcases, and backpacks, as well as unopened personal care items such as toothbrushes, shampoo, and deodorant. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday at the Children's Services administrative office located at 3191 Clay Mangum Lane, Tampa, FL 33618. Items may also be purchased through the program's Amazon Wish List and shipped directly to the campus.
