The new station would replace two older fire stations in Plant City
Hillsborough County, Fla. (July 25, 2025) - Hillsborough County Fire Rescue is hosting a community meeting in Plant City to discuss construction plans for a new fire station designed to replace two existing, aging fire stations in Plant City.
Hillsborough County plans to negotiate the purchase of a 5.9-acre undeveloped parcel at 2606 W. Sam Allen Rd., Plant City, FL 33565. The goal is to build a modern fire station at the site to serve the residents and businesses of Plant City.
The proposed fire station would replace Fire Station No. 26 -- Cork/Knights and Fire Station No. 30 - Midway, which were built in the 1980s.
Fire Station No. 26 - Cork/Knights, located at 5302 Thonotosassa Rd., Plant City, FL 33565, was built in 1982. The building is 4,900 square feet and has two-bay stations.
Fire Station No. 30 - Midway, located at 2526 Charlie Taylor Rd., Plant City, FL 33565, was built in 1981. The building is 3,400 square feet and has two bay stations. Along with being an aging structure, the city of Plant City annexed the land surrounding the station on three sides, and a large amount of development has occurred west and north of station, which is within the municipal boundary.
The proposed fire station would have a modern design with three or four bay stations and provide health protections for firefighters. This includes decontamination suites with specialized equipment and showers to allow first responders to clean themselves and their equipment of cancer-causing particulate matter before entering the living areas of the fire station. The fire station also would have individualized sleeping quarters, helping to reduce the spread of airborne illnesses.
In addition, the planned fire station would have modern dispatch alerting technology to improve response times through digital data displays, countdown timers, and mobile applications in the responding fire vehicles. The alerting technology uses gently ramped alert tones and specialized lighting in the station to alert fire responders of an emergency. The subtle alert technology helps reduce cardiac impact that can be caused by repeated, startling emergency calls when first responders are sleeping or resting at the station.
