Saturday event will spotlight the past, present, and future of mosquito work in Hillsborough
Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 6, 2025) - For 75 years, Hillsborough County Mosquito Management Services has worked to control the mosquito population in Hillsborough County.
This Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents can celebrate that milestone at a family-fun event with the team that works around the clock to eliminate mosquitoes and stop the spread of deadly mosquito-borne diseases. The event will be held at 6527 Eureka Springs Rd., Tampa, FL 33610.
Scientists, inspectors, helicopter pilots, and educators will be on hand to share how the program has evolved over the decades and where it's headed. The event will feature guided tours of the facility, interactive displays and exhibits, and the opportunity to view and take photos inside a Mosquito Management helicopter.
One of the most important roles of Hillsborough's Mosquito Management team is public education, because residents can do more to control the mosquito population than they often realize. The public education team will teach residents where mosquitoes might be breeding on their property and what they can do to stop it, including draining all standing water as mosquitoes can breed in as little as a half-inch of water.
