Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 5, 2025) - Hillsborough County is hosting a public meeting this week in South Tampa to evaluate and gather public input about the cumulative flooding impacts of seasonal rainfall and Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton.
This week's public meeting at Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Library, 3910 S. Manhattan Ave., Tampa, FL 33611, is part of a series of listening open houses taking place across Hillsborough County over the next few weeks. There are still four opportunities for residents to attend these meetings. Next week, events will be held in the USF and Lake Magdalene areas.
The meetings will explore the extent of the impacts of the storms by hearing from residents who live in areas most impacted. There will not be a formal presentation. Residents at the meetings, and those who are not able to attend, also can take this online survey to help Hillsborough County design potential regional flood mitigation and resiliency strategies.
Hillsborough County has engaged an outside engineering firm to conduct a thorough independent assessment of the impacts from 2024's severe rain events on stormwater infrastructure. As part of this assessment, community input is being gathered during this series of public meetings. Residents are encouraged to attend these meetings to describe how the storm events affected roads, private property, and businesses. A total of eight public meetings are being held across the county, strategically located to be near residents who were impacted most by the storms. Four meetings remain.
Residents also can learn about the assessment and provide feedback virtually on the Hillsborough County Education & Engagement Hub through May 19.
