A small section of North Howard Avenue will be closed temporarily from July 15 until Aug. 5, 2024
Hillsborough County, Fla. (July 12, 2024) - A small section of North Howard Avenue will be closed temporarily from July 15 until Aug. 5, 2024, as crews near the end of a resurfacing project.
Hillsborough County is improving North Howard Avenue from West Kennedy Boulevard to West St. Louis Street near Columbus Drive to enhance transportation mobility and increase safety.
The closure is necessary for the full depth reconstruction and repaving on North Howard Avenue between West Kennedy Boulevard and West Fig Street.
All associated work related to the road closure is scheduled to be completed in August 2024. As with all construction projects, inclement weather may affect the scheduled operations and overall duration.
Detours will be implemented to assist motorists travelling near the work zones. Residents should follow the marked detours to get around the closure.
The project includes full resurfacing, rectangular rapid-flashing beacons (RRFBs), reduced speed limits, sidewalk improvements, and new signage and pavement markings.
Pedestrian safety improvements and multimodal accommodations are included in the scope of this project. Rectangular rapid-flashing beacons (RRFBs) are being installed at West Gray Street, West Cass Street, West Spruce Street, West Cherry Street, West Palmetto Street, and West Beach Street. These safety features are pedestrian-activated and designed to help pedestrians and cyclists safely cross the street.
As the project is in the City of Tampa, city officials also have requested a speed limit reduction from 40 mph to 35 mph.
