Hillsborough County's Bike Fest will donate 40 bikes to encourage healthy summer fun
Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 14, 2024) - When the bike festival rolls into town on Saturday, May 18, with it will come a 40-bike special delivery to kids in the community.
Hillsborough County's Office of Community Impact is hosting its inaugural Bike Fest to encourage kids to get their bodies moving during summer break and brush up on bicycle safety ahead of June and July, a time when more kids are playing outside.
Forty students with the greatest need for reliable transportation to and from school were chosen to receive a bike during the event. The bicycles will provide alternative transportation for these students during the upcoming school year.
The lucky kids and their families will attend the event on Saturday to receive their new ride and take part in festivities available to the whole community like bike helmet fittings, safety course, and free giveaways from community partners. As summer approaches, this is a great time to brush up on bicycle safety.
The Bike Fest is a free event and open to the public. Only the 40 pre-selected children will receive a free bike at the event. Attendees are encouraged to ride their bike to and from the event.
Hillsborough County's Office of Community Impact is hosting the Bike Fest in partnership with Hillsborough County Public Schools, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff's Hispanic and Indian Advisory Councils, Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority, Walk Bike Tampa, Well Built Tampa, Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, OnBikes, BayCare, and Bikes for Christ.
