Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 1, 2024) - Mark your calendars for upcoming events at New Tampa Performing Arts Center (NTPAC). Tickets are on sale for the following events and performances:

South of the Border: The Ultimate Tijuana Brass Tribute on Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m.

Celebrate Cinco De Mayo with South of the Border: The Ultimate Tijuana Brass Tribute. This special holiday concert will feature the music of '60s band Herb Albert & The Tijuana Brass, which was known for its blend of Latin, jazz, and pop sounds. South of the Border meticulously recreated the original band's arrangements with eight seasoned musicians and vocalists. Tickets are $13 for a theater seat and $15 for a table seat and can be purchased at NewTampaArtsCenter.org/tickets.

Tampa Bay Symphony Spring 2024 "A British Fantasia" on Friday, May 10, at 8 p.m.

  • Pomp and Circumstance No. 1 in D-Major, "Land of Hope and Glory" - Edward Elgar

  • Concerto for Bassoon, Strings, and Percussion - Gordon Jacob - Mark Sforzini, Bassoon soloist

  • Enigma Variations, Op. 36 - Edward Elgar

New Tampa Unplugged

This series is NTPAC's spin on the hit show, MTV Unplugged, which aired in the 1990s and early 2000s and featured popular artists of the time performing acoustic sets. The New Tampa Unplugged series presents acoustic performances from notable Tampa Bay musicians in a unique, intimate setting with candlelit cabaret seating. Beer, wine, and cocktails available for purchase. Tickets are $13 for a theater seat and $15 for a table seat and can be purchased at NewTampaArtsCenter.org/tickets.

  • New Tampa Unplugged: Acme Jazz Garage on Sunday, May 12, at 3 p.m.

    • Jazz, blues, funk, Latin jazz, and fusion meet in the combustible sound of Acme Jazz Garage, featuring guitarist Matt Swenson, bassist Philip Booth, pianist and keyboardist Jody Marsh, saxophonist Rick Runion, and drummer Michael Washington.

  • New Tampa Unplugged: La Lucha and Friends "Spring Into Summer" on Sunday, May 19, at 3 p.m.

    • La Lucha is a prominent Tampa Bay jazz trio that is always evolving and surprising audiences with reimagined, genre-shifting arrangements. For this concert, La Lucha will collaborate for the first time with Brazilian trombonist, François de Lima, a major figure in samba, bossa nova and MPB, and longtime friend and guitarist, LaRue Nickelson.

Films

Enjoy movies on the big screen in NTPAC's state-of-the-art theater. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at NewTampaArtsCenter.org/tickets.

  • Hollywood Hillsborough Film Series: Cocoon on Thursday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m.

    • The Hollywood Hillsborough film series spotlights Tampa Bay's presence in cinema. Cocoon is a 1985 Academy Award-winning science fiction fantasy film. Directed by Ron Howard, it follows a group of Florida retirees who unknowingly swim in a pool containing alien cocoons and find themselves energized with youth! The movie was famously filmed in neighboring Pinellas County with several recognizable landmarks, but one memorable scene was filmed in a former Tampa Bay nightclub! Rating: PG-13

  • Kids Film Series: PAW Patrol: The Movie featuring Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center on Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m.

    • Families can watch the PAW Patrol save Adventure City on the big screen. Plus, Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center will have PAW-some arts and crafts before the start of the movie! Rating: G
