Arts Council funding 11 individual artists and 37 organizations in fiscal year 2024
Three Arts Council of Hillsborough County grant programs totaling $404,192 in funding have been allocated to a combined 44 artists and organizations in Hillsborough's thriving arts community.
Cultural Development Grant Program
Established in 1991, the Cultural Development Grant Program provides general operating support funding to local cultural organizations. Twenty-two awards are given to groups that sponsor performing and visual arts activities that serve diverse audiences and reach geographically diverse communities.
The 2023-2024 awardees are located throughout the county, including in Brandon, Ybor City, New Tampa, Tampa, and countywide or touring programs. They include Brandon Ballet, Carrollwood Players, and Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, among others.
Community Arts Impact Grant Program
The goal of the Community Arts Impact Grant Program is to make arts and cultural opportunities more accessible for underserved populations across Hillsborough County. The 15 2023-2024 awardees include organizations such as Gasparilla Music Foundation, Inc.; Instruments 4 Life; and Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. These awardees sponsor events, provide materials such as musical instruments, host workshops , and provide other community-oriented programming.
Professional Development for Artists Grant Program
For individual artists, the Professional Development for Artists Grant Program provides support for specific projects that advance the careers of artists in Hillsborough County. Grant recipients have used this funding to purchase laptops and photography equipment, or to attend a class or workshop to expand or enhance their work. The 2023-2024 awardees include painter/sculptor Samson Huang, cast glass sculptor Susan Gott, 2022-2023 Fulbright Scholar Megan Euker, and eight other local talents.
