The county is assessing the significant damage caused by Hurricane Milton and will reopen locations one by one as they are confirmed safe for public access.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we diligently work to repair these sites, prioritizing the safety of our citizens.
The Bahia Beach Nature Preserve was acquired in 2001 by Hillsborough County through the Jan K. Platt Environmental Lands Acquisition and Protection Program (ELAPP). After the County acquired the property, the Preserve was restored as a cooperative project between Hillsborough County, the Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County, and the Southwest Florida Water Management District.
The restoration area consists of new wetlands created for the purposes of enhancing wildlife and marine habitat and improving water quality discharging into the bay. Wading birds, ducks, bald eagles and shorebirds offer great viewing opportunities for birdwatchers.
