Hurricane Debby Update No. 9

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Aug. 5, 2024) - Hillsborough County has closed the evacuation shelter at Erwin Technical College after two nights of serving residents needing evacuation due to Hurricane Debby.

The shelter hosted 90 residents, including with five with special needs and three pets.

The County also distributed more than 24,000 sandbags to 2,400 Hillsborough families at three distribution sites around the County on Friday and Saturday.

Damage assessment teams are still in the field and residents should stay alert for floodwaters that may continue to rise.

The County's Emergency Operations Center will return to regular operations on Tuesday and County operations will return to normal.

County customer service professionals helped more than 750 residents with storm-related calls resulting in nearly 350 requests for service with the majority related to fallen trees and flooding.

During the past five days, more than 236,000 residents visited the County's website, HCFL.gov, and of those visits over 5,000 residents visited the Stay Safe page, the County's destination for all storm and emergency information.
